Mara Adamitz Scrupe’s poem “Jesus by July” has been short listed in the Ron Pretty Poetry Prize competition. The short list comprises five poems, three place getters and two runners up. The short list was announced on the Five Islands Press website on Tuesday 31 January 2017. The winning, second and third placed poems will be announced at the prize ceremony at Collected Works Bookshop in Melbourne, Australia, on Friday, 3 March 2017.
In the past few months Scrupe’s poems have appeared in journals and anthologies including Comstock Review, Off The Coast, Narrative Magazine, Ruminate, Crosswinds Review, Kalyna Language Press, Crab Creek Review Sentinel Quarterly Literary Review (UK), and the Stony Thursday Book (Limerick, Ireland). She has won or named finalist for international awards including Periplum Book Award (Plymouth University, UK), Sentinel Quarterly Book Award (London, UK), Stiwdio Maelor Poetry Prize (Wales), Cornwall Poetry Festival Competition, Aesthetica Creative Writing Award (UK), and the Canterbury Poetry Festival University of Kent Prize/ Poet of the Year Award.
Scrupe’s poems have recently been shortlisted or named finalist for several national and international literary awards and prizes including the University of Canberra Vice-Chancellor’s International Poetry Prize, Australia, the Canterbury Poetry Festival/ University of Kent Prize and Poet of the Year (UK) and the Black Warrior Review Poetry Prize, The University of Alabama.
